YUM. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I know a lot of you are moms out there in blogland, so maybe perhaps some of you are going through with your 5 year olds, what I am going through with my nearly 31- year old husband...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">They <span style="font-size: large;">WILL NOT EAT VEGETABLES. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"> <span style="font-size: small;">Belive it or not, this harmless and delicious looking burger up there (on a ciabatta roll, no less) contains no fewer than 4 vegetables. </span> </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This is very much a "use what you have" dish, but the basics are: </div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>1lb ground turkey meat</b> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">( Makes about 4 REALLY good size burgers) </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>1 egg</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">This binds all the ingredients together when cooked</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>1 cup plain breadcrumbs</b> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">(sometimes I use already-cooked brown rice) </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Basically this sucks up any additional liquid to keep the burgers from falling apart or being too wet. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><b><span style="font-size: small;">Cheese of Choice </span></b>(optional)</span></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b>Last night's veggies were: </b></div><div style="text-align: center;">1 carrot (grated)</div><div style="text-align: center;">1 smaller zucchini (grated)</div><div style="text-align: center;">1/2 small onion (finely chopped)</div><div style="text-align: center;">handful of parsley (finely chopped)</div><div style="text-align: center;">5 springs of thyme </div><div style="text-align: center;">1 cup uncooked spinach (you cook this in the microwave for about 90 seconds and then wring out any excess water) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EF5t1ulul_Q/TfdkKFN2r0I/AAAAAAAAAks/9dCV8aJamhE/s1600/DSC_0208.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EF5t1ulul_Q/TfdkKFN2r0I/AAAAAAAAAks/9dCV8aJamhE/s400/DSC_0208.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Here's what ya do: </b></span><br />
<b>1.</b> Preheat grill or grill pan </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>2.</b> In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients, except the meat, breadcrumbs and egg. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Add salt and pepper to taste (and any other seasonings you want)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b> 3.</b> Add the turkey meat and egg and combine, being careful not to over stir</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>4.</b> Add the breadcrumbs a couple of tablespoons at a time. You may not need all of it. Basically you just want the mixture so it is very moist, not wet, and sticks together when you clump it into a ball. Adding too much starch will make your burgers dry. No bueno. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>5.</b> If you are adding cheese, form the patties around the cheese, pushing it into the center. Hence, the "inside out" cheeseburger. As the burger cooks the cheese will melt and give the burger a whole other level of yummy-ness. Gouda, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Pepper Jack and even goat cheese would be pretty fantastic for this.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>6. </b>Place on the grill for about 10 minutes on each side. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9lZ1WQ7SG5I/TfdjD2eX4wI/AAAAAAAAAkc/KuQQJu9ZMCo/s1600/DSC_0191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9lZ1WQ7SG5I/TfdjD2eX4wI/AAAAAAAAAkc/KuQQJu9ZMCo/s400/DSC_0191.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M6zyS6-kXHg/TfdjlZ2OSuI/AAAAAAAAAkg/JT8Fkds1924/s1600/DSC_0202.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M6zyS6-kXHg/TfdjlZ2OSuI/AAAAAAAAAkg/JT8Fkds1924/s400/DSC_0202.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
I like this method because when you see the cheese starting to melt out, you know you didn't screw it up and they'll be cooked through. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I like to grill my buns (that's what she said) </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UqSQ-cQ6MLQ/Tfdjv-ZfhkI/AAAAAAAAAkk/2N1WCQ3R-dY/s1600/DSC_0206.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UqSQ-cQ6MLQ/Tfdjv-ZfhkI/AAAAAAAAAkk/2N1WCQ3R-dY/s400/DSC_0206.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Its a super healthy, nutrition-in a dish. Add in a ciabatta roll and some smoked gouda or goat cheese, you've got yourself a pretty grown-up meal, friend! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">What do you think? Anyone gonna give this a shot with the veggie-resistant people in their lives?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">xo,</div><br />

Eee! I love a good surprise! Anyhoo, I was super pumped that the next day we found ourselves on our way out to Luckett's, VA to visit Luckett's Antique Market! I've <strike>heard</strike> read its praises sung by loads of people across the interwebs, so here are some of my favorite "inspiration" shots from Lucketts</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Let me just say that I lurve hot glue. This was a delightful experiment in, well, experimenting- and it turned out great! I often come across things that look complex, but I'm like "you know, I bet I could make that with some hot glue" and every once and a while...I am correct. Sweet, Sweet Success. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This project wasn't <i>exactly </i>free for me, since I had to buy the driftwood for $24(that includes shipping) bucks from, from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/people/StairLodgeSupplies?ref=ls_profile">this lovely chap in the UK from Etsy</a>. But you could easily make this using things from your yard/beach/ neighbor's yard. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He even gave me " a wee bit extra!" </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rRB5pmbW_6s/TeZVHS2-oeI/AAAAAAAAAho/2KbqI9EU9MY/s1600/DSC02037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rRB5pmbW_6s/TeZVHS2-oeI/AAAAAAAAAho/2KbqI9EU9MY/s320/DSC02037.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">tee hee! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thank you, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/people/StairLodgeSupplies?ref=ls_profile">Phil!</a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The process was pretty easy. I used all the tallest sticks first and spaced them around the jar (which I already had on hand), and then layered the next tallest, ect... around to create a layered effect. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I think I need to create new <a href="http://pinterest.com/rummageliving/">Pinterest </a>board entitled "Things to do with sticks". </div><div style="text-align: center;">Here are a few of my favorite nature-inspired ideas that really "stick". </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vh5G22Cq7MI/TeT1NTFSqDI/AAAAAAAAAhA/aOqmfFlU9rk/s1600/Picture+7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vh5G22Cq7MI/TeT1NTFSqDI/AAAAAAAAAhA/aOqmfFlU9rk/s400/Picture+7.png" width="296" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/31276156/"> via </a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> This is a super easy idea to DIY, and given that they're even tied together with string, you can remove as needed! I love incorporating natural elements like this into my seasonal decorating, especially around Christmastime and springtime. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uYOKkBtv6Ek/TeT21aM8yaI/AAAAAAAAAhE/79vDgdWfrSE/s1600/Picture+19.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uYOKkBtv6Ek/TeT21aM8yaI/AAAAAAAAAhE/79vDgdWfrSE/s320/Picture+19.png" width="276" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/22281503/">Via</a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Driftwood hurricane idea courtesy of Anthropologie. I literally could put this anywhere, anytime. I may actually just carry it around with me. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I've got immediate plans to DIY this bad boy- just ordered some driftwood from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/StairLodgeSupplies">this shop on Etsy</a> and my hot glue gun is warming up! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ecaszHK0vSg/TeUG3dlrxoI/AAAAAAAAAhI/9yzH7MaCvDA/s1600/Picture+47.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ecaszHK0vSg/TeUG3dlrxoI/AAAAAAAAAhI/9yzH7MaCvDA/s400/Picture+47.png" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">And of course this Branch-o-lier from Mrs. Limestone at <a href="http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2010/12/christmas-brancholier.html">A Brooklyn Limestone in Progress</a>. It's so pretty for the holidays, but wouldn't it be fun for Halloween, too? Maybe with some black crows perched ominously? As you can tell, it is barely summer and I am already jonesin' for Halloween. Just 5 more months, people! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I just love the impact that these few, and usually FREE touches make! </div><div style="text-align: center;">If you come across any more stick touches, you need to let me know ASAP. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm not kidding. </div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Do you remember that song from Eiffel 65? In case you're looking for something to get stuck in your head for EVER: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/68ugkg9RePc?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hi guys, </div><div style="text-align: center;">Thanks for bearing with me the other day. Perhaps I was taking out my "blue" mood is some subconcious freudian way this weekend, because someone *rasies hand* went a little nuts with the color blue in the master bedroom. Or should I call it the master BLUE room. No? Ok. Well- see what I mean:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-prMrx9ExZvw/TdQldX3tklI/AAAAAAAAAgU/jNTU19NUO8w/s1600/DSC02001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-prMrx9ExZvw/TdQldX3tklI/AAAAAAAAAgU/jNTU19NUO8w/s640/DSC02001.jpg" width="488" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Here's a close-up of those curtains. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hlfclkG-DLI/TdQmOYt1eGI/AAAAAAAAAgc/pCAnX7sjQyE/s1600/DSC01994.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hlfclkG-DLI/TdQmOYt1eGI/AAAAAAAAAgc/pCAnX7sjQyE/s400/DSC01994.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> I have been eyeing this fabric for EVAH and this weekend I stumbled upon it at my favorite discount fabric store, Boca Bargoons Fabric Outlet, on 20th street in Boca Raton. Where it was $21 a yard after their 40% off everything sale that they always seem to have going on. Sooo... This is a splurge for me, considering that curtains generally require 6+ yards, but in my mind, sooo worth it. Our room was threatening to win the world cup in beige-ness. </div><br />
Here's a peek before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gaqALK1GLmk/TWPViajuPTI/AAAAAAAAARY/DDDOrWP-hKg/s1600/DSC01460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gaqALK1GLmk/TWPViajuPTI/AAAAAAAAARY/DDDOrWP-hKg/s320/DSC01460.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">ew. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's after I made my <a href="http://sugarandspackle.blogspot.com/2011/02/10-diy-headboard.html">$10 DIY Headboard</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-050uS0Dq88E/TWPU6oUfUFI/AAAAAAAAARQ/503JjkDun_Y/s1600/DSC01575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-050uS0Dq88E/TWPU6oUfUFI/AAAAAAAAARQ/503JjkDun_Y/s320/DSC01575.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"> Ah, much better. Now to add some pops of color! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-prMrx9ExZvw/TdQldX3tklI/AAAAAAAAAgU/jNTU19NUO8w/s1600/DSC02001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-prMrx9ExZvw/TdQldX3tklI/AAAAAAAAAgU/jNTU19NUO8w/s400/DSC02001.jpg" width="305" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm a sucker for indigo. I'm an indigo girl. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I made those drapes, BTW. With my buddy, Mr. Sewing Machine. You can see that only one has the blackout lining done because I am lazy, and that first one was a BIIIITCH. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uiXbhd9XMYY/TdQm0r85zYI/AAAAAAAAAgg/ZGRVDis073c/s1600/DSC01992.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uiXbhd9XMYY/TdQm0r85zYI/AAAAAAAAAgg/ZGRVDis073c/s400/DSC01992.jpg" width="305" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> Also that bedskirt is probably one of the more genius thing's I've ever done. I was going to actually MAKE a full on bedskirt with like, measuring and adhesion and stuff, so I tucked my fabric in and around the box spring bedskirt-style to see how I liked it, and guess what happened? It stayed there. New home. New bedskirt, no sewing. Bam! Which is just as well since I'm not totally sold on the fabric. Too matchy-matchy? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> Dirty secret: Only my side and the foot of my Cal-king size bed has a skirt, since I folded my 4 yd piece in half. Zach's side is nekkid. Shh!!! I don't think he's noticed yet. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Anyhoo- temporary/easy-to-take with me and not getting locked into anything is the name of the game these days. Which is why I decided to make my purty fabric into drapes instead of locking into a piece of upholstery.</div><div style="text-align: center;">I even kept an extra 4 inches at the bottom of each curtain and just basted the hem so that if we go somewhere that needs longer drapes, I can just let out the seam! </div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">In any case I'm glad that we are no longer in the running for the "Bedroom that looks most like the inside of a milk carton contest". </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Did I mention I like indigo?</div><br />

Because this is my blog and I can. </div><div style="text-align: center;">You don't want moping? Scroll down for some pictures of puppies. Go on. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's the thing. My penchant for home decor/DIY blogs is pretty masochistic at this point. As you might know, Zach and I have been under contract on a house. Our first house. The perfect first house. For about 3 months now. We are at the last step, which is actually securing financing. We didn't anticipate this being such a hurdle. We make a good living and the projected mortgage payments are less than we are currently paying in rent. But we've been rejected once already. Bummer. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">We are experiencing first hand the ridiculous knee-jerk reaction to the banking meltdown, where once banks were lending to everyone, now they are lending to no one, and I'm writing now because I have been in such a funk just waiting for that next rejection that I feel is sure to come. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I've always been a journal writer, scribbling little thoughts and bits that weren't really meant for anyone else. And up till recently (aka when I met my husband almost 3 years ago) all these thoughts were about boys. Seriously, from age 12 onward. Get a grip, Marg. But, anyway, sharing this stuff is new for me. I know its not the typical post, but... it's what's going on. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I stopped writing for a while, and then when I resumed, (sporadically) my journal seems to have taken on a much more adult tone. What do I want to do for a living? Where will we live? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Small questions, big implications. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So I guess I'm just having a pity party for myself over here, because while I am thankful to have health, a wonderful family, a job and a place to live and food on the table, I can't help but feel so darn down in the dumps. Not that it's even in the same arena, but I almost feel like that if we don't get this house, its like a couple who can't conceive. It's something you want so much and you're just so ready and you want this next part of your life together to start, already! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, after having gotten my hopes crushed at multiple stages of this home buying process, only to have them feebly inflated once again is really taking its toll on my spirit. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I hope I will look back on this post (hopefully someday soon) and be a little embarrassed about how melodramatic I'm being. We totally lucked out and got this amazing vacation rental from VRBO.com for waaay cheaper than staying at a crappy hotel.<br />
<br />
Apologies for the lack of pictures- the ones I've taken (which include a view of the golden gate and palace of fine arts) from our apartment do not appear to be cooperating.<br />
<br />
Cannot wait to eat some good food, see some good friends, and just have an amazing time!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Oh my Jeebus, I love pillows. The best part, though, is that these are pillow covers! I can change my mind as much as I want! They have zippers! Zippers that are able to be opened! Whee! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

You've heard of this, right? If you have not; it is this paint, right, that gives you this rich, purty color AND 1. you don't have to sand, prime, or anything. Just slap it on, let it dry and distress to your heart's content. Say whaaat! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7uzms4k0Roc/TbgwvxEkkoI/AAAAAAAAAec/HJIlPPsVF8I/s1600/DSC01902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7uzms4k0Roc/TbgwvxEkkoI/AAAAAAAAAec/HJIlPPsVF8I/s640/DSC01902.jpg" width="420" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">It is Le perfect for an easily distracted individual such as moi. I can slap on a coat when I get a surge of inspiration without having to do all that stupid prep work. Prep work is no fun. I reupholstered this chair that I got at Goodwill: </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4XZ60DDlCjs/TXZcjyVpBRI/AAAAAAAAAYI/StMimtidbQc/s1600/DSC01633.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4XZ60DDlCjs/TXZcjyVpBRI/AAAAAAAAAYI/StMimtidbQc/s400/DSC01633.jpg" width="300" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I am sooo on that bandwagon. If you're going for the distressed look, look no further. The folding chair was done in the first color I ordered, Paris Grey (are we surprised?) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have since ordered Aubisson Blue and Old White. Everything is getting painted. It adheres to everything. Plastic, other paint, metal, wood, veneer, toothpicks, meatballs. You name it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I might name my firstborn child Patina (Ok, not really. ) But there's something about a time-worn look that just rocks my socks. And the only thing better is something that looks gorgeous and old, is a way that you can MAKE it look gorgeous and old. Am I right, ladies?!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> Whilst perusing Twitter today ( you can find me at @Rummage Living, by the way!), I came across a tweet by <a href="http://www.designspongeonline.com/">Design Sponge: </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xr0tDEKnfGA/TZspuJL9thI/AAAAAAAAAdM/Bfg7e1pH1yQ/s1600/Picture+12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="153" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xr0tDEKnfGA/TZspuJL9thI/AAAAAAAAAdM/Bfg7e1pH1yQ/s320/Picture+12.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ditto. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So, I found this here tutorial by <a href="http://www.toolgirl.com/toolgirl/2010/03/staining-wood-with-cheap-natural-and-nontoxic-tea.html">ToolGirl. </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It looks super simple and I love that staining with tea is all-natural and non-toxic! </div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0Vhdcg_IgFI/TZsq5aUx5ZI/AAAAAAAAAdQ/M_p1fo3Fc0k/s1600/Picture+13.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0Vhdcg_IgFI/TZsq5aUx5ZI/AAAAAAAAAdQ/M_p1fo3Fc0k/s320/Picture+13.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.toolgirl.com/toolgirl/2010/03/staining-wood-with-cheap-natural-and-nontoxic-tea.html">source</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The best I can gather, is you can use tea on its own to stain unfinished wood ( the lighter the better), or you can use a solution of steel wool (or nails) in vinegar to darken the shade dramatically. And each tea gives a different look! You can even get that turquoise shade by soaking pennies instead of nails/steel wool! So so cool. </div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HFEwL5m6-sQ/TZsrTqqfudI/AAAAAAAAAdU/VOqozUY0i_0/s1600/Picture+14.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="290" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HFEwL5m6-sQ/TZsrTqqfudI/AAAAAAAAAdU/VOqozUY0i_0/s400/Picture+14.png" width="400" /> </a></td><td style="text-align: center;"> </td><td style="text-align: center;"> </td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.toolgirl.com/toolgirl/2010/03/staining-wood-with-cheap-natural-and-nontoxic-tea.html">source</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Oh, and some of you may be wondering, "Hey, I wonder why Margaret's @Rummage Living instead of Sugar & Spackle". And that is a great question- with an even better answer....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Sugar and Spackle is becoming Rummage Living!</span> I'm working with some super creative types on a really freaking cool new layout now and I am SO excited to launch it. All of you guys have really inspired me to push the envelope in so many ways, and my style, confidence and LOVE of doing this stuff has just grown enormously. Don't fret, I'll still be the same flippin' cool chick, just a different name and a kickass site! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So that's my news! We've got some time yet, but I wanted to let ya know so you can start, you know, preparing yourself for the awesomeness that will ensue. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">P.S. don't you love that you had to read the whole post to get here? I'm tricky like that. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">OH, and have you guys heard of <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/">Pinterest</a>? It's an online inspiration/board swapping site, where you can "pin" items/articles/projects/ inspiration that you like to share with others, and to come back to when you want it! I think I have like, 6 invites that I can use, If you'd like, be one of the first 6 and I'll invite you! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">xo,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Margaret</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Margarethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09422301536035051904noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2738444222172889350.post-52256250999530639352011-04-04T17:19:00.001-04:002011-04-05T09:55:09.165-04:00Pillow Talk.<div style="text-align: center;">Guess what?! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I made a PILLOW. It is the wonkiest thing EVER but I MADE IT. </div><div style="text-align: center;">See? Terrible. </div><div style="text-align: center;">It was my first time sewing ANYTHING. Can you tell? haha </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TGoXGBmQ0dM/TZoluGOEqyI/AAAAAAAAAcw/P6Ok_NMJ1RY/s1600/DSC01895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TGoXGBmQ0dM/TZoluGOEqyI/AAAAAAAAAcw/P6Ok_NMJ1RY/s320/DSC01895.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">But that doesn't stop me from doing this <span style="font-size: x-large;"> :D </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">That's me with a big 'ol smile. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This pillow is phase 1 of my master plan to overthrow the lingering bachelor pad that is our living room. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">As you can see, our apartment is still suffering from a case of Leftover Bachelor Pad Syndrome, or LBPS. The only known cure for LBPS is to cover up chrome and black leather bachelor sofa with 1. <span style="font-size: large;">pillows</span> and 2. chrome on MY terms. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And since the hubs (former bachelor in question) spent WAAAAY to much on them. They are here to stay (until I can figure out how to get rid of them). </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And the chrome on my terms thing isn't so bad. Lately I've been embracing the Palm Beach/ Hollywood Regency thing. Good thing since we're in Palm Beach County, eh?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n4fUX4K2h94/TZol1e3CWhI/AAAAAAAAAc0/oGkyKTLUuCw/s1600/DSC01898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n4fUX4K2h94/TZol1e3CWhI/AAAAAAAAAc0/oGkyKTLUuCw/s640/DSC01898.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Take our friend, New Mr. Coffee Table. Mr. Coffee table currently looks pretty awesome, and I bet he knows it. (Or, as awesome as I can make him while still going with our couches)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Before, it was this dude. Old Mr. Coffee Table. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Nn2VZkg3ptY/TZopLBhyUMI/AAAAAAAAAc8/cNrkmPxaMmY/s1600/Picture+11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="465" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Nn2VZkg3ptY/TZopLBhyUMI/AAAAAAAAAc8/cNrkmPxaMmY/s640/Picture+11.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Not <i>bad, </i>but I like the updated look. Sidenote: I bet some of you out there have your guys peeking over your shoulder and just said "oh, that's not bad, I like that." </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">figures. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"> I also softened up the harsh lines and black leather with slightly feminine, vintage and natural accessories, and played off the chrome in items like vintage keys, mercury glass, and other shiny things. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iCL0sdM9Md0/TZol87QSm4I/AAAAAAAAAc4/n3ea-xy2nJ0/s1600/DSC01900.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iCL0sdM9Md0/TZol87QSm4I/AAAAAAAAAc4/n3ea-xy2nJ0/s400/DSC01900.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Oh, the best part? That chrome base was $5. Yeah. Five. Dollas. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And that stuff on top of it, let's see- the tray is a vintage picture frame just with the glass ($2), the coasters are super heavy kind of bronze coral/bamboo texture ($4 for 6) and that other stuff is just pulled from other places in the house. </div>Balance and contrast is so key in any room but especially when you are trying to offset elephant-in-the-room peices. Oh well, they're comfy at least!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">xo, </div><div style="text-align: left;">Margaret</div>Margarethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09422301536035051904noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2738444222172889350.post-34898714330742910862011-03-30T10:09:00.000-04:002011-03-30T10:09:28.798-04:00How to upholster over a cane back chair: Take two!<div style="text-align: center;">This method is seriously a big-time improvement. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z8ZpUwS5Iio/TZMyoD3p2nI/AAAAAAAAAcE/uS7KILjCbe4/s1600/DSC01889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z8ZpUwS5Iio/TZMyoD3p2nI/AAAAAAAAAcE/uS7KILjCbe4/s320/DSC01889.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Before we begin, some notes and reflections: </div><div style="text-align: center;">Reflection #1: Really take the time to cut your fabric as close as possible to where you want it to go. Trying to trim off the excess like a pie crust after you've glued it is pretty difficult. Plus, you've got fraying to contend with. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Get your materials together: Batting, glue gun (glue gun sticks, obvi), Fabric and spray adhesive if you have it. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I put two layers of batting down, using the spray adhesive to hold it in place while I worked. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Then, cut your fabric as close to size as you can, and begin to hot glue it around the edges. My method for this is put the glue as close to the edge, directly onto the caning and carefully place your fabric over it. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1kW82ZL1L90/TZM2zoGeBUI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/QvrTjYKUWJ0/s1600/DSC01892.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1kW82ZL1L90/TZM2zoGeBUI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/QvrTjYKUWJ0/s320/DSC01892.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8DVx--vXxcM/TZM2vmz9rkI/AAAAAAAAAcM/apTUydVVKgw/s1600/DSC01891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8DVx--vXxcM/TZM2vmz9rkI/AAAAAAAAAcM/apTUydVVKgw/s400/DSC01891.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">And it should look generally like this. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Easy, right?! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now just add your trim of choice and you are done on the back! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The front is just exactly the same thing. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Two layers of batting, hot glue and fabric. The secret is to trim trim trim before gluing to get a really good fit. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DRXGPJeUSyE/TZM307tBu3I/AAAAAAAAAcU/OQq1so6Hnh8/s1600/DSC01866.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DRXGPJeUSyE/TZM307tBu3I/AAAAAAAAAcU/OQq1so6Hnh8/s400/DSC01866.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have it shown here without trim so you can see. The batting really gives it a nice comfy-lookin' poof doesn't it? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Ah, sweet success! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z8ZpUwS5Iio/TZMyoD3p2nI/AAAAAAAAAcE/uS7KILjCbe4/s1600/DSC01889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z8ZpUwS5Iio/TZMyoD3p2nI/AAAAAAAAAcE/uS7KILjCbe4/s400/DSC01889.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Gaaah! I tried to do the stretched canvas approach, whereby I streched the fabric across the opening on the back and stapled it in place, and used the gimp trim to cover up the staples. Bad idea. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, I cast that chair aside (for now) and focused my attentions on my pretty distressed gray chair of the set. Yes, this one chair is different from the rest of the set. I was in an experimenting mood. Don't judge me! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I love how this gray chair turned out. The patina is just too pretty for me to paint over to just plain white. So I kept it. And decided to try another method for upholstering the back since the caned back was busted through. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Karne1ngKkA/TZHyX0dZQwI/AAAAAAAAAbk/Aom8V3f9Bd0/s1600/DSC01883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Karne1ngKkA/TZHyX0dZQwI/AAAAAAAAAbk/Aom8V3f9Bd0/s400/DSC01883.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Oh, hey, what's that? Yeah. Totally looks like a chair. An awesome chair. Woot woot. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">It's not trimmed, but is this not so much better? Forget what I said about using cardboard to upholster over a caned back. Well, no, don't forget it. You could still use it for simple shapes, but this is WAY easier when you have a fancy shape that you need to get <span style="font-size: large;">exactly freaking right</span> or else it just looks like it belongs on the short bus. Like this guy: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uvMEyY-3ocE/TZHxvx53fPI/AAAAAAAAAbg/69FTlKMVPFc/s1600/DSC01867.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uvMEyY-3ocE/TZHxvx53fPI/AAAAAAAAAbg/69FTlKMVPFc/s320/DSC01867.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Blerg. Anyone know how to remove trim that's been hot glued on? Anyone? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm working on the full tutorial on how to make your upholstered caned back NOT suck, but the gist of it is: </div><div style="text-align: center;">You need batting, your fabric, scissors and a glue gun and <span style="font-size: large;">that is it. </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">If you've got spray adhesive it makes things that much easier for you. I used staples at first. no. don't do that. Not necessary. Glue gets it so much more precise every. single. time. </div><br />
P.S. The wonk-ified chair is the back to my ikat upholstered french chairs! I'm totally gonna do it, you guys. I have 3 of 4 chairs in various states of non-matching-ness, so I really ought to quit typing and start upholstering.<br />
<br />
Toodles!<br />

Seriously, I was all crazy nervous <a href="http://sugarandspackle.blogspot.com/2011/03/perfect-fabric-happy-dance.html">about doing these chairs</a>, and I finally got up the guts to start, and it was just not happening, folks. The method I wanted to use, that I<a href="http://sugarandspackle.blogspot.com/2011/02/how-to-upholster-over-cane-back-chair.html"> used for this chair</a>:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UWUmpvzIqTA/TWZxEvYyHuI/AAAAAAAAATQ/cxx4zpR-_Gk/s1600/DSC01587.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-UWUmpvzIqTA/TWZxEvYyHuI/AAAAAAAAATQ/cxx4zpR-_Gk/s320/DSC01587.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> did<span style="font-size: large;"> NOT</span> work for these. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b3d0pT4JyzU/TUA3I_p3sBI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/ufnHXNkfVVg/s1600/DSC01410.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b3d0pT4JyzU/TUA3I_p3sBI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/ufnHXNkfVVg/s320/DSC01410.jpg" width="209" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Cause of the fancy-schmacy back, I couldn't get the poster board cut quite right. So. Where does that leave us?</div><div style="text-align: center;">STAPLES! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now, I've never used a stapler to upholster onto a frame, it's mostly been just upholstering around a cushion, but I know that the manual ones would kill your hand in 10 seconds flat. So I borrowed an electric one from my father- in-law, who has pretty much every tool known to man, and it was MISSING A PART. GAAH! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Buzzkill. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Don't you just HAAAAATE when you get the balls/time/all the rest of the materials to do a project and the roadblocks crop up? </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Anyway. Now I am sitting on my ass, giving my unfinished chairs a death stare and grumbling. Good story, right? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I fart on staple guns. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">All I want to do is put </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">THIS. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VUQ300b3grk/TXpKucVA0aI/AAAAAAAAAZM/8QzeJ4Qs4oU/s1600/Picture+9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="507" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VUQ300b3grk/TXpKucVA0aI/AAAAAAAAAZM/8QzeJ4Qs4oU/s640/Picture+9.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">onto THESE</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XQM4JiuR0eY/TSNOjoC9vyI/AAAAAAAAAFY/MPTmN2fTuGU/s1600/photo-18-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b3d0pT4JyzU/TUA3I_p3sBI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/ufnHXNkfVVg/s1600/DSC01410.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b3d0pT4JyzU/TUA3I_p3sBI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/ufnHXNkfVVg/s640/DSC01410.jpg" width="417" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">grumble. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Thanks for taking this ranting journey with me. </div><div style="text-align: center;">On the bright side, I am going to cajole my hubs into getting me sushi take out for dinner tonight! </div><div style="text-align: center;">Sweet, sweet consolation. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Your grumbling, sushi-eating pal, </div><div style="text-align: center;">Margaret </div>Margarethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09422301536035051904noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2738444222172889350.post-89979870713192443812011-03-23T12:18:00.004-04:002011-03-25T08:58:13.201-04:00Chalkboard Buffet<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bswbcfdVuBM/TYoXUyRYmTI/AAAAAAAAAa0/3RrHZmVDbzI/s1600/DSC01769.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bswbcfdVuBM/TYoXUyRYmTI/AAAAAAAAAa0/3RrHZmVDbzI/s400/DSC01769.jpg" width="243" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I had such a blast working on this piece. It was a super ugly 70's server, but I saw huge potential when I saw its fold out top: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T4-3d5ZLEBs/TUcGr58ODsI/AAAAAAAAALM/UqKa49C1shE/s1600/photo-25.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-T4-3d5ZLEBs/TUcGr58ODsI/AAAAAAAAALM/UqKa49C1shE/s400/photo-25.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I love the versatility of it. You get lots of room when you need it, with little big impact on your day-to-day space. I wanted it to have a really worn look. So the word of the day working on this was "bejesus"As in, " I'm going to distress the bejesus out of this thing". I really took that mantra to heart. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wtpcxo7leNk/TYoWz3sivgI/AAAAAAAAAas/VjEePuuVrs0/s1600/DSC01783.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wtpcxo7leNk/TYoWz3sivgI/AAAAAAAAAas/VjEePuuVrs0/s400/DSC01783.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> The funnest part? The fold-out chalkboard top! Please forgive me, I had no chalk so I couldn't write a fun little message for you. But I just love the idea! <div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">In the past week Zach and I got pre-qualified and have since been house hunting like nobody's business. We are super excited to announce that we found ' the one' I don't want to say too much, in case I jinx it, but here are the facts. Facts don't jinx, right? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">We put an offer on a historic 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom house, built in 1923, that hit pretty much everything on our 'wish' list *Hint: It's got a pool AND an outdoor fireplace* Seriously. It's awesome. Like, on the national register of historic places awesome. Plus, there is no reported paranormal activity- I asked. :D </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Of course the listing agent thinks I'm a freak for asking, but they have to disclose it, you know! There's a legal precedent! (Holler for friends in law school!) </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">That offer was accepted (Sweet!) and we just had the home inspection yesterday. Things are moving along, and while there are still so many moving parts and things that could fall through, I am just so so so hopeful that this is our house. We didn't see another one that even came close to what we want, so if it ain't this.... it's rental city for the next who-knows-how-long. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So please send your finger-crosses/ 4 leaf clovers/ wishbones this way!! P.S. If anyone wants to make this their birthday wish when they blow out their candles, let me know and you totally get a pool party at Casa Schaffer (that's my last name, by the way, did you know that?) next year! I pray to sweet little baby Jesus that this will all go through. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">OK, back to sending up those house prayers. </div><br />

I have to say I am ashamed. I am Irish and totally forgot. However, I chalk that up to going buckwild in the name of good St. Patty this saturday past. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pntCsgBh8Ew/TYJKIR35rwI/AAAAAAAAAZw/eeifAWqXKLA/s1600/DSC01760.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pntCsgBh8Ew/TYJKIR35rwI/AAAAAAAAAZw/eeifAWqXKLA/s400/DSC01760.jpg" width="346" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I got this little guy for $5 at a thrift store some MONTHS ago, and didn't know really what to do to jazz him up. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ps3_eCj5OmE/TUcGs0nmmhI/AAAAAAAAALc/mI7iZBf1srg/s1600/photo-21.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ps3_eCj5OmE/TUcGs0nmmhI/AAAAAAAAALc/mI7iZBf1srg/s1600/photo-21.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">And then when my Valspar <b><i>free</i></b> paint sample arrived, it came to me! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Chevron!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ZYP__xL4Wak/TYJMqrRd3OI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/VmXwhyMTqnE/s1600/DSC01690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ZYP__xL4Wak/TYJMqrRd3OI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/VmXwhyMTqnE/s400/DSC01690.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Also, are we noticing a color gravitation? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">'Cept here's the thing, I really stink at measuring and consistency. Kind of two things you need when doing chevron. I, on the other hand, respond very well to tracing. I very much like not having to think too much about what I'm doing. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9u-OOQlLIJY/TYJMcfL87oI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/QNa0eWlXrqc/s1600/DSC01692.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9u-OOQlLIJY/TYJMcfL87oI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/QNa0eWlXrqc/s320/DSC01692.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I cut out this here triangle. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EP5KEBWkPas/TYJMwsjH4wI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/hcKTvni1Rdw/s1600/DSC01694.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EP5KEBWkPas/TYJMwsjH4wI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/hcKTvni1Rdw/s320/DSC01694.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And traced it out on the tabletop. (Jasper is helping)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And taped it off (not pictured) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And painted it (not pictured) Trust me, really not that interesting. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Done! Whee! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OQ7NzRl6mpk/TYJTWTI1GbI/AAAAAAAAAaE/PtNlxXf-cDU/s1600/DSC01757.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OQ7NzRl6mpk/TYJTWTI1GbI/AAAAAAAAAaE/PtNlxXf-cDU/s400/DSC01757.jpg" width="337" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And it doesn't suck! Ah, the luck of the Irish! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">xo, </div><img src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z476/digitalconfections/Margaret/signature.png" /><br />

Whee! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">My needs were simple, yet the search was extensive and HARD. I went through dozens, literally dozens of samples. Ordered swatches online, waited <s>im</s>patiently for then to arrive, then I compared, scrutinized and compared again. Narrowed it down only to realize that the fabrics I selected were $30/yd. Yeah, no. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I considered scrapping the idea once or twice. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And then yesterday my swatches from LS Fabrics showed up. And this beaut was among them: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TLIyQkyT-vI/TXpIus1ActI/AAAAAAAAAZI/hkrj972rmDU/s1600/DSC01686.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TLIyQkyT-vI/TXpIus1ActI/AAAAAAAAAZI/hkrj972rmDU/s640/DSC01686.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"> Me: "oOOooh!" This could work...</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rvR7hqotH9I/TXpIraNDPtI/AAAAAAAAAZA/bd9KkrkrCe8/s1600/DSC01684.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rvR7hqotH9I/TXpIraNDPtI/AAAAAAAAAZA/bd9KkrkrCe8/s640/DSC01684.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">OH! This is it! Yes! Yes! Yes! </div><div style="text-align: center;">I sprint to my computer, whip open the screen, type the URL feverishly only to find ....</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VUQ300b3grk/TXpKucVA0aI/AAAAAAAAAZM/8QzeJ4Qs4oU/s1600/Picture+9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="507" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VUQ300b3grk/TXpKucVA0aI/AAAAAAAAAZM/8QzeJ4Qs4oU/s640/Picture+9.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">SON OF A....</div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I started praying and googling at the same time that I could find this PERFECT fabric. Well, I did. Except it was $44/yd. Yeah, no. So I did what any mature adult would do. Spent the next 12 hours grumbling. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">But never fear, friends. There is a light at the end of that tunnel. Because TODAY I found this: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Va5Ot2vmAjg/TXpMI47_JAI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/ywqkKD0w8b0/s1600/Picture+10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="491" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Va5Ot2vmAjg/TXpMI47_JAI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/ywqkKD0w8b0/s640/Picture+10.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">From<a href="http://tallahasseedecorativefabrics.com/"> Tallahassee Decorative Fabrics</a><br />
<br />
*Insert Liz Lemon manic laughter* I BEAT YOU, LS FABRICS! I WIN! AND FOR $1 less! HA! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Anyhoo, I ordered it and now I am mucho excited.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The End. </div><br />

What a haul I had last night at Goodwill. Seriously. I just found out it was open 'till 8 p.m. (score!). I got a couple of nifty knick nacks to aid in my upcoming St. Patty's/ Easter Decorating. But the crowning jewel of my finds is this FOLDING CHAIR. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4XZ60DDlCjs/TXZcjyVpBRI/AAAAAAAAAYI/StMimtidbQc/s1600/DSC01633.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4XZ60DDlCjs/TXZcjyVpBRI/AAAAAAAAAYI/StMimtidbQc/s320/DSC01633.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This may not seem that exciting to you, so let me explain. I have been wanting to go Anthropologie hack on these chairs for EVER. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-dkLDOCSpVMM/TXZoMLjl5pI/AAAAAAAAAYY/69EnEKPo2Sg/s1600/Picture+61.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-dkLDOCSpVMM/TXZoMLjl5pI/AAAAAAAAAYY/69EnEKPo2Sg/s640/Picture+61.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Yeah you read that right, almost $200 smackers for a FOLDING CHAIR. Oh, did I mention that my goodwill folding chair cost $3.49?? BooYAH! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">AND now that I ordered my <a href="http://sugarandspackle.blogspot.com/2011/03/sew-what.html">sewing machine</a>, I can make matching double welt cording. Mwahaha! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">P.S. I like how that picture makes my flip flops look dainty. My size 10 feet are anything but. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I also got these mirrors: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HZF5JVtRQh8/TXZcys4TPGI/AAAAAAAAAYM/CvyI-3LDRiY/s1600/DSC01635.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HZF5JVtRQh8/TXZcys4TPGI/AAAAAAAAAYM/CvyI-3LDRiY/s320/DSC01635.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">For a grand total of $15 buckaroos. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y2IMu1DudCU/TXZdWRIvC0I/AAAAAAAAAYQ/ZDS53x-czuA/s1600/DSC01636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y2IMu1DudCU/TXZdWRIvC0I/AAAAAAAAAYQ/ZDS53x-czuA/s320/DSC01636.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">They each have a different pattern on them, and they're all in great shape! I was thinking about maybe trying to make it look like aged carved wood to tie in my cherry wood dining table (seen peeking through) and do an acid-eaten mirror thing: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jnUgAscArCU/TXZqNZJq0LI/AAAAAAAAAYc/M8Jz1d_BQmc/s1600/Picture+62.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="498" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jnUgAscArCU/TXZqNZJq0LI/AAAAAAAAAYc/M8Jz1d_BQmc/s640/Picture+62.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">What do you think? Should I go the weather-beaten wood route, or do it some bold color like teal and glaze them? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">xo,</div><img src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z476/digitalconfections/Margaret/signature.png" />Margarethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09422301536035051904noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2738444222172889350.post-85362956220187746792011-03-07T16:13:00.000-05:002011-03-07T16:13:20.779-05:00Sew What?<div style="text-align: center;">I think I want to get a sewing machine. I want to make all kinds of cool shizz like pillows. Yes! Pillows with ZIPPERS! Also, I may wish to make dog bed for the kiddos (who are actually dogs. I don't make my nonexistent human children sleep in a dog bed). I am appealing to you crafty chicas out there to give me some feedback if you have any! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm thinking about purchasing this dude here: </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-El8Ml8SLCcA/TXVJvRM70pI/AAAAAAAAAX8/gtwMR6_RKv0/s1600/Picture+60.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-El8Ml8SLCcA/TXVJvRM70pI/AAAAAAAAAX8/gtwMR6_RKv0/s640/Picture+60.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">At almost $90, its an investment, but I think you get what you pay for with this type of stuff. What do you think? Any other models/ brands I should look at? </div><br />
